A friend of mine just got put into "Facebook Jail"
for 24 hours, meaning that his use of the social media site has been restricted.
His crime?
Liking too many of his friends posts and comments.
Now, whatever your personal feelings about ye olde book of faces, and even though this restriction is temporary... it does serve as a cautionary reminder for us all.
When you play in someone else's backyard, you have to play by THEIR RULES.
And if they don't like what you are doing, they can kick you out.
They don't owe you anything.
But before you scoff, know this:
If you rely on social media as a primary source of clients, then your business is fragile and out of your control...
Every post you make, every review you collect, every like and share you gather... only exists because they allow it to exist.
And even if you keep your nose clean and toe-the-line, what happens if your landlord falls out of fashion?
Remember Geocities, Friends Reunited, MySpace... or, ahem...
Google Plus?
Are we saying you shouldn't use these platforms at all?
Of course not - they can be immensely useful!
But it pays to spread your eggs over many baskets, and make sure you own a bunch of those baskets too.
It give you the best of both worlds by letting you collect and display reviews you own directly as well as encouraging your best clients to also leave feedback on social media.
And you can give your Hypnotension listing a boost with it too.
Cheers
Rob & Paul
